Sam tells us:  "No, the image (of the face) is pixilated because I painted it that way.  There is nothing in that painting or any of my other work that uses digital imagery. it is ALL painted with acrylic paint.  The image you [see] is a picture of one of my paintings on stretched canvas that I photographed with a digital camera (so as to easily send through e-mail in standard jpg format).  No changes have been made to the image.  You see it as it has been painted on the canvas."
